Responsibilities

Summary:  Manage the Environmental Health & Safety for Matthews, NC facility.  Implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.  Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations.  Maintain plant policies to keep abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Management of workers compensation matters and property/casualty insurance matters. Review all projects for input related to effects on EHS Programs and permits.  Serve as contact with federal, state and regulatory bodies.

  • Follow and support all Company policies (safety, ISO, QMS, GMP, and others as directed)
  • Conduct safety onboarding for new team members
  • Organize annual safety training for all team members, to include; Haz. Com., Confined Space, Fall Protection, Emergency Evacuation, Ergonomics, Bloodborne Pathogens, LOTO, facility inspections, and any other required training
  • Develop and conduct new training programs as needed
  • Complete OSHA forms and reports
  • Conduct incident investigations & complete Risk Assessments
  • Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings
  • Conduct MOC’s of any new and/or re-worked equipment prior to release for general use
  • File environmental data according to state requirements
  • Perform annual environmental facility inspections
  • Compile monthly shift safety agenda
  • Act as facility resource for all safety related issues
  • Maintain training matrix
  • Review SDS with online contractor
  • Perform 1st Responder duties as needed
  • Provide development for the Safety Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred

Experience: 3-5 or more Years Safety experience in an industrial setting preferred

 

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation
  • Ability to communicate ideas to groups or individuals
  • Ability to use AS400, Microsoft Office
  • Ability to develop information tracking systems
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other government regulations.  CSP or CIH preferred.
  • Knowledge of incident investigations
  • Knowledge of  extrusion and blown film plastic process and associated equipment and machinery preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees from diverse cultural backgrounds with limited English skills.
  • Matthews is a 24/7 facility
