Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, review, management, and maintenance of the plant’s Food Safety Programs including Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF).
  • Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF System
  • Validate changes to Food Packaging Safety Fundamentals and HACCP Plan that have an impact on the ability to deliver safe, quality food packaging.
  • Responsible for the validation and verification of the following SQF requirements:
    • Pre-requisite programs
    • Critical control points
    • Critical packaging safety limits
    • Monitoring activities
    • Sampling, inspection and analysis for Food Packaging Safety
    • Schedule and lead internal audits for Food Packaging Safety
  • Ensure SQF training is conducted for required team members within the plant.
  • Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position is primarily responsible for assisting the day-to-day activities of the QA department and ensuring conformance to quality standards, food safety and safety programs.
  • This position is also responsible for developing/implementing programs of continuous improvement for all departments within the facility. In addition, this position maintains all customer specifications and facilitates training, new product qualifications, review and retention of customer specifications, and Customer Improvement Opportunity investigations.
  • Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Lead all required meetings with safety first – daily meetings, plant shift meetings, team meetings, departmental meetings, etc.
  • Completes internal or external incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner along with verification of effectiveness.
  • Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals.
  • Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.
  • Provide support to the Engineering and Production departments.
  • Setup and prepare CQV protocol for required tool or material qualification.
  • Perform and/or coordinate master validation protocols, equipment IQ (Installation Qualification), OQ (Operation Qualification) and PQ (Performance Qualification) protocols.
  • Maintain Calibration for all the Quality Dept. measuring equipment.
  • Prepare and implement quality procedures and work instructions regarding laboratory equipment, product inspections, line inspections, dock audits, or other activities related to quality assurance.
  • Maintain and review customer specifications, JDE specifications and drawings.
  • Manage and/or assist with product audits, customer audits, food safety audits, quality management system audits.
  • Interface with other support personnel to ensure the Company’s standards of quality are consistently implemented and adhered to on a daily basis.
  • Make recommendations on the disposition of rejected products.
  • Initiate reports and maintain quality control records as required by computer and other data collection systems.
  • Observes plant rules and safety precautions to prevent injury to self and others and to prevent damage to tools and equipment and loss of materials.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support customer and supplier requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Food Packaging Safety and/or Quality experience in an industrial setting.
  • Bachelors degree in Food Science or related field or equivalent experience, preferred, or 5+ years equivalent experience.
  • HACCP training with evidence of competency
  • Written and verbal communication skill
