Responsibilities

PURPOSE:  Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Quality Manager is responsible for managing all quality programs, policies and initiatives.  Identifies, analyzes and develops improvements in productivity, quality, client relationships and customer service.  The Quality manager is also responsible for establishing and implementing processes and policies to ensure that the facility is producing and selling the highest-quality product.  The Quality Manager must exhibit a high level of knowledge of the principles of product and of quality control/evaluation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements and maintains Healthcare Quality vision & direction.
  • Generates Quality metrics and leads improvement.
  • Utilizes process audits, systems audits and corrective/preventive action to continuously improve end product.
  • Responsible for the visibility of and communication about quality metrics plantwide. Generates reports as needed.
  • Leads customer, plant and corporate communications for qualifications, complaints, audits and onsite visits. Communicates key quality information to appropriate internal personnel.
  • Develops an annual Quality Improvement Plan. Executes and tracks progress toward plan achievement.  Reports results and helps lead the management/business review process.
  • Implements, maintains and audits plant quality systems, processes, procedures in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Develops and maintains test methods to meet inspection needs.
  • Manages daily Quality department activities. This includes the supervision and development of personnel, control of nonconformance, Quality inspection and traceability records.
  • Oversees Measurement Systems Analysis, Quality Assurance training records and lot inspection/approval.
  • Manages customer specifications and ensures updates are made based upon process capability data. Implements and ensures plant adheres to customer specifications. Takes corrective actions for incapable specification internally and with customer.  Also manages the deviation process until specifications on issues are resolved.
  • Serves as Plant ISO/SQF Management representative.
  • Must complete a HACCP training course;
  • Be competent to implement and maintain HACCP-based food safety plans; and
  • Have an understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code: Manufacture of Food packaging and the requirements to implement and maintain an SQF System relevant to the site’s scope of certification.
  • Identifies Quality risks to plant and corporate leadership.
  • Participates in the standardization and development of Healthcare quality systems.
  • Leads supplier corrective action and continuous improvement activities in collaboration with Purchasing and Corporate Quality for key suppliers.
  • Takes the role of plant 6 sigma pillar.
  • Maintains effective communications on operational issues, systems status, performance measures and risks to Berry and customers.
  • Supports and monitors resin/regrind activities within the plant.
  • All other duties as assigned.   

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL, SKILL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
    • Regularly required to stand; walk; physically and visually inspect items (use of eyes and hands);
    • Occasional need to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or climb        
    • Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. 
    • Potential for noise exposure over 90 decibels in some areas.
    • Potential exposure to airborne particles or chemicals that could cause irritation of the eyes and skin. 
    • Occasional exposure to slippery or slick walking or work surfaces.
    • Potential exposure to sharp objects and moving parts. 
    • Potential exposure to objects with electrical energy/static electricity.
    • Potential exposure to hot or abrasive surfaces. 
  • PPE and GMP Requirements while on shop floor   
    • PPE: Company provided ear plugs or ear muffs, Company approved safety glasses, Hard hat or Bump Cap, Steel/composite toe boots or shoes.  
    • GMP: long sleeves, long pants, gloves, hairnet, beard net, if applicable.  
    • This applies to all areas of the plant (Manufacturing, Warehouse, Maintenance, Tool Shop, etc.)

    • Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information; develops alternative solutions; mitigates relationship conflicts and encourages problem-solving.
  • Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required. Overall applicable work experience may be considered as value to fit for role.
    • 4-years of experience in Quality Systems required.
    • Must have strong knowledge in statistics and manufacturing systems.
    • Computer systems knowledge; experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
    • Certifications Preferred: ASQ, Auditor, Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Lead Assessor (ISO), SQF, Lean & Six Sigma tools.
    • Experience in supervision of production, staff personnel and lab management is preferred.
    • Green Belt/Black Belt trained and certified preferred.
    • Preferred experience in: Validation, ISO (9001/13485/15378), CFRs (21/210/211/820).
    • Strong project management and organizational skills required.
    • Ability to analyze, direct, and prioritize required.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a team.

 Day shift position, nights and weekends as needed
