Responsibilities

PURPOSE The individual will lead Corporate Plant Engineering Teams, providing guidance related to improving programs and project development with focus in Global RPS and across all disciplines of Plant Engineering.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and train engineering staff. 
  • Support plants to reduce risk of safety events and improve reliability. 
  • Respond to any emergency or potential emergency following established procedures. 
  • Successfully evaluate asset conditions and help prioritize asset replacements. 
  • Successfully complete Primary Duties as outlined below. 

AUTHORITIES: 

  • “Stop work” in any facility when potentially unsafe conditions or employee or supplier practices are observed. 
  • Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product or quality systems 
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels 
  • Suggest actions for continual improvement to products, processes, facilities or systems and verify the implementation of solutions. 

PRIMARY DUTIES: Include tasks assigned by the VP Engineering Services, in addition to: 

  • Work closely with Plant Engineering team, provide guidance and objective goals to foster professional development. 
  • Promote best practices and establish guidelines related to plant systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.  
  • Interact with plant and operational leadership teams to prioritize and execute on critical infrastructure needs. 
  • Provide technical support in evaluating capital projects to maximize impact of investments.  
  • Provide direction on our utility management programs support utility reduction and cost savings initiatives.  
  • Provide leadership and oversite of the Electrical Safety and compliance programs. 
  • Develop and maintain strategic vendor relationships with preferred partners and OEM’s.   
  • Assist in budgeting of and execution of: equipment moves, plant consolidation and expansion projects to ensure infrastructure is in place to support changes in business operations. 
  • Assist with property insurance risks and real estate projects as needed.  Assist with lease exits, sales, etc. 
  • Assign work and provide updates on project milestones…budget, schedule, execution.  
  • Continuously improve department programs to bring the most value to operational stakeholders. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field 
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering related to manufacturing support and operations. 
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills. 
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, design, lead and manage improvement projects. 
  • Broad knowledge of plant operations and infrastructure support systems. 
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and the ability to motivate and influence others. 
  • Ability to manage confidential matters, exercise good judgement, and work well under time constraints. 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE: 

MBA and/or equivalent business acumen 

Experience leading engineering professionals 

Knowledge of Berry’s manufacturing processes
