Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)

 

  1. MANUFACTURING;

The Maintenance Manager reports at start of shift to get prepared for the day’s projects and priorities concerning maintenance issues in the entire facility. Evaluate new issues concerning maintenance and prioritize, delegate, and oversee all repairs and projects. Develop, schedule, and manage a preventative maintenance program to maintain production equipment in proper working conditions. Supervise and coordinate activities of all technicians responsible for electrical and mechanical operations and assist in their training where needed. Develop training programs and aids for troubleshooting.

 

Inspect jobs in process and at completion to ensure that standards of workmanship and safety are maintained. Follow the direction of the Plant Manager, work with the Technical Manager and communicate throughout the day with all department managers, shift supervisors and technicians. Keep update to date in regards to new equipment and technologies and investigate their potential applications.

 

Always be aware of environment, work safely at all times, constantly evaluate situations in the entire production facility and oversee and/or plan all repairs. Maintenance Manager will also oversee the parts room and inventory ensuring to keep costs down with efficient evaluations and choices to ensure the best prices and fastest delivery times whenever possible and/or needed.

 

Make recommendations to the Plant Manager regarding new technologies and ideas that can be helpful in reaching our maintenance and plant goals and objectives as well as future growth and/or expansion. Conducts performance appraisals and recommends pay increases when warranted, and counsels maintenance and plant staff as needed on attendance, performances, safety and other issues. Conducts safety meetings and keeps employees informed on goals, company policies, rules and safety concerns. Assures employee/employer relationships are maintained. Attend other meetings as required. Must be available on-call at all times.

  1. OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS;

Knowledgeable concerning all mechanical and electrical principles, machining practices, the property of metals and the applications of mathematics for production machinery. Knowledge concerning modern fabrications, assembly techniques, and machine shop practices and techniques. Ability to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of the manufacturing equipment or tooling problems, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation, and be attentive to detail. Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner by communicating with staff and delegating work to the technicians. Shows initiative and ability to work effectively with no direction and communicate well with all plant personnel. Constantly works on keeping moral high and be aware of the all dangers of working with fast paced production equipment. Working knowledge of computer controlled machine tools and exposure to high volume automated production equipment. Must have good speaking and telephone skills.  Must be proficient in Excel and Word programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management staff, and outside vendors by phone, in person, and through written and verbal correspondence. Must be self-motivated with superior problem solving skills.

 

Qualifications

  • HEALTH AND SAFETY;

Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry’s guidelines.  Visually inspects work environment for hazards, equipment safeguards, employees’ safety, and adherence to policies. Maintain compliance with OSHA, company, and housekeeping rules.

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS;

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and ability required.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Technical degree preferred. Must have minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance supervision or management experience in manufacturing environment including mechanical knowledge, hydraulics, pneumatics, assembling machinery and electrical troubleshooting. Experience and knowledge in machinery used in poly film manufacturing, welding and machine shop equipment a plus.

 



LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.  Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions and to request clarification when needed. Working knowledge of business, spelling, office practices and procedures; departmental rules and regulations. Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have excellent mathematic skills and working knowledge of measuring tools used in the manufacturing environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue.  The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze.  The employee may lift up to 50 pounds and routinely bends, kneels, squats, pulls and drags, climbs/descends stairs into/from the tower areas 50 to 60 feet in the air. Must be able to work at a fast pace for periods up to 4 hours at a time. Must be able to work an 8 or a 12 hours shift if needed. Must be able to work under hot damp conditions especially in the summer time when temperatures may exceed 120 degrees in some parts of the production area.  Must be able to stand on concrete floors for an 8 or 12 hour period minus breaks and routinely walk through the production area to consult with managers, supervisors, lead men as well as technicians. The employee may need to step up 1 ½ feet and pull himself onto the seat of a forklift.  Ability to work up to 16 hours if the need arises as well as work over 40 hours during a week.  High mental and visual effort required.
