Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety environmental and health policies.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas in line with GMP and sanitation policies.
  • Recommend and implement process or plant changes to enhance safety and quality.
  • Develop and manage the tooling budget and departmental metrics.
  • Oversee all tooling activities and set priorities for these groups.
  • Minimize equipment downtime due to tooling breakdowns.
  • Manage expenses for tool shop and make recommendations for capital needs.
  • Evaluate down-time and efficiency reports.
  • Drive process improvements.
  • Manage daily activities of the tooling department to balance staffing, workflow, and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate work with outside contractors and ensure the completion of all assigned projects.
  • Collaborate on capital projects to ensure requirements are met and budgets are adhered to.
  • Set weekly and monthly priorities and schedules for the tooling team. 
  • Collaborate with vendors on new technology and coordinate vendor/supplier activities.
  • Enhance the skills of tooling employees through training, development opportunities, and coaching.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for tooling employees and identifying training needs

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years maintenance group lead or supervision experience in a tooling environment
  • High school diploma / GED equivalent
  • Certified Journeyman Toolmaker required
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and direct employees.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, excellent troubleshooting capability and proven ability to apply that knowledge
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and team building skills required
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct employees in a positive manner to drive results
  • Excellent negotiating ability
  • Must have excellent industry knowledge.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs, spreadsheets, word processing, and data bases.
